Heating and Cooling in Festus, MO
Heating and cooling in Festus, MO is a long drive, about 1 hour 20 minutes from our base near Spanish Lake in normal traffic, down I-55 country in Jefferson County. Festus grew slowly, so we see older furnaces and AC units, plus homes where fuel type is the first question.

Festus is one of our longest drives south. It is about 1 hour 20 minutes from our Broadhead Lane base in normal traffic, so tell us the symptom on the phone and we will say plainly whether and when a visit works.
Older houses on I-55 and US 61 that grew slowly
Festus had 9,660 residents in 2000, 11,602 in 2010 and 12,706 in 2020, according to census figures. The article counts 5,361 housing units in 2020. That is steady, modest growth next to Crystal City, and it suggests many houses here carry equipment that has been repaired more than once.

On an older furnace, the questions are practical. Does the heat exchanger look sound, is the flue venting properly, and is the next repair worth the age of the unit? We answer those before quoting a replacement.
Gas main, propane or electric: the fuel question
Festus sits just west of the Mississippi River in Jefferson County. Spire lists Jefferson County in its eastern Missouri service area but adds that service is not available at every location, so check your address. Where there is no main, the fuel choice comes first and the equipment second.

A 1983 median build year means second furnaces and first ones that are very old
Point2Homes puts Festus's median year built at 1983, with about 8.5 percent of homes built before 1940 and another 6.8 percent in the 1940s. A house from the early 1980s is probably on its second furnace and AC by now, given the 15-20 year life contractors cite. The oldest streets may still carry their first heating setup, with ductwork added decades later, and the clues are a rusted flue, a cabinet that rattles and rooms that never balance. We start with the oldest part of the system and work forward.
Festus is an Ameren Missouri town on the electric side
The City's utilities page lists Ameren Missouri for electricity and Spire for natural gas, and the Jefferson County Water Authority supplies the water. That matters for heat pumps. Ameren's 2026 chart pays $2,000 per system for air-source heat pumps at 15.2+ SEER2 in dual-fuel, electric-resistance-replacement and no-existing-central-system cases, and $500 per ton for 19+ SEER2 mini-splits. A participating contractor has to submit the paperwork, and we do not claim that status, so check Ameren's contractor list and get the terms in writing.
What Festus homeowners usually need from us

Furnace Repair
Festus grew slowly, from 9,660 residents in 2000 to 12,706 in 2020, so many furnaces here are decades old, and the first conversation is a repair rather than a replacement.

AC Repair
A spring check beats finding a failed capacitor on a July evening in Festus, when our technician is a 1 hour 20 minute drive away and the schedule may not stretch that far.
Learn more →
Furnace Installation
Homes beyond the gas main in Festus heat with propane or electricity, so the fuel choice comes before furnace size, and it decides the equipment, the quote and the running cost.
Learn more →
AC Replacement
On a drive this long, settling the load calculation, the written quote and the Festus permit question by phone keeps a replacement to one trip instead of several.
Learn more →
Furnace Maintenance
With a median build year near 1983, a typical Festus furnace is old enough that a fall heat exchanger, flue and ignition check is cheaper than discovering the fault in the first cold snap.
Learn more →
Heat Pump Installation
The City lists Ameren Missouri as Festus's electric provider, so a heat pump here can qualify for Ameren's 2026 rebate chart, provided a participating contractor files the paperwork.
Learn more →
Furnace Replacement
Selling a Festus house means a Certificate of Occupancy inspection, and if a failed furnace comes up, the owner needs a repair price and a replacement price in writing before closing.
Learn more →Calling about a 1 hour 20 minute trip
Describe the system, its age and what it last did. A technician diagnoses before swapping parts, explains the problem plainly and gives a clear, upfront quote in writing before anything is started. We would rather repair a working furnace than push a new one, and we tell you when a repair no longer makes sense.
Selling a Festus house: the Certificate of Occupancy inspection
The City of Festus issues a Certificate of Occupancy for a house being sold only after an inspection, and it cites the 2009 International Property Maintenance Code in that process. The page does not say what the inspector checks on a furnace, so call the Building Department and ask before listing. If a heating fault comes up, a 1 hour 20 minute drive means you want the repair scheduled early, not in the last week before closing. Finished basements and major remodels follow the 2009 International Residential Code, so keep access to the furnace in the plan.
Building Department and local notes in Festus
The City of Festus Building Department is at 711 W Main Street, 636-937-4694. Its page says residential projects involving framing, plumbing or electrical work need a permit, and it covers mechanical systems for commercial projects but is silent on residential HVAC. Call and ask. Missouri has no statewide HVAC license, so ask any contractor for a license number your jurisdiction recognizes.
Ameren's 2026 rebates reach Ameren Missouri customers only. For repairs, see furnace repair, and for a cooling replacement see AC replacement.

Learn more →Heating and Cooling in Festus: common questions
Will someone actually drive down to Festus?
Yes, but it is a long trip: about 1 hour 20 minutes from our base near Spanish Lake in normal traffic, roughly 49 miles. Call first and we will say honestly where the schedule stands. We are open 24 hours, and we offer same-day service when the schedule allows.
Does Festus require a permit to replace a furnace or AC?
Festus says residential projects involving framing, plumbing or electrical work need a permit, and its page lists mechanical systems for commercial projects but does not address residential HVAC. Call the Building Department at 636-937-4694 before work starts, and put the permit question in the written quote.
My Festus house has no gas line. What are my heating options?
Propane, electric resistance or a heat pump are the usual options, and the right one depends on your electric rate and house. Spire serves Jefferson County but says to confirm service by address. A heat pump install is worth pricing against 2026 Ameren rebates if Ameren Missouri bills you.

The best in the business!!! So nice, great communication, quick and straight to the point. I can’t recommend Kenan enough!!!
Kenna did an amazing job! I had another company come out and told me I needed a new furnace because my heat was not coming on. Previous company said could be the motor/fan and that would cost $650, which I was ok with. They didn’t check any parts, but was ready to say I should just get a new heating and cooling unit. I knew my neighbor had service done by Kenyan and said he did a great job. He came out and found it was a capacitor that was causing the issue and fixed it. He is awesome and definitely if I need help again, he will be called and I will use his services!
